Marjorie Louise Walthall Robertson, 94, of Newton, Texas, departed this world on October 30, 2024.
Born on November 22, 1929, Louise was the daughter of Sampson and Kate Walthall. She grew up in Camden, Arkansas, and later moved to Newton, Texas, with her family.
Louise worked the majority of her career as a secretary or bookkeeper. She retired from Bon Wier Lumber Company. Not ever having children of her own, she was the loving aunt to many nieces and nephews and then later to her great-nieces and nephews and even the next generation of nieces and nephews. She adored taking care of babies and children. She will be remembered for her meticulous record-keeping skills and her love for studying the Bible and serving the Lord Jesus Christ. She believed in keeping an immaculate house and attending church whenever the doors were open. Marjorie Louise Walthall Roberston cherished the simple joys of life.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and enduring memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of her family and friends.
Marjorie Louise Walthall Robertson is survived by her sister, Tenie Krist, and husband, Bob, of Springfield, Missouri. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sampson and Kate Walthall, and siblings, Jessie Faye Kappaz, Irene Tourila, Billie Black, and Talmadge Walthall.
A memorial service to celebrate Marjorie Louise Walthall Roberston's life will be held on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at Smith Funeral Home in Newton, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Newton City Cemetery.
Carletta H. Cummings, 79, of Newton Texas passed away October 20, 2024 at her residence. She was born August 30, 1945 in Jasper, Texas to Roy and Imogene Miller Harrell.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Wednesday October 23, 2024 at Smith Funeral Home in Newton. Visitation will be 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday October 22, 2024 at the funeral home.
Carletta was a longtime resident of Newton and worked in the deli for Brookshire Brothers for many years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother: R.A. Harrell, and son: Rodney Cummings.
Her survivors include son and daughter-in-law; Ronnie and Kathryn Cummings of Newton, sister; Wanna Isaacks of Newton, nieces; Sherry Isaacks of Nederland and Susan Weatherford of Nacogdoches, grandchildren, Billy Cummings of Arkansas, Kendra Williams of Texas, Bryon Cummings of Arkansas, Jonathan Fatheree of Colorado, and Erin April of Texas, and eleven great grandchildren.
Carletta will be greatly missed and her memories will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Simon John Muntean Jr., 81, of Burkeville, Texas, passed away October 07, 2024 in Bertram, Texas. He was born to Mr. and Mrs. Simon John Muntean Sr..
Sam owned and operated Mojo’s Snow cone and Food Stand for many years. He proudly served our country in the United States Army from 1960- 1963 and was a seaman in the Merchant Marine from 1966-2001.
He is survived by his son, Simon Muntean of Liberty Hill, Texas; brother, Billy Muntean of Vermont; sister, Becky Tomlin of New Jersey; and two grandchildren, Brandon and Shelby Muntean.
Sam met many people while serving our country, and working at Mojo’s. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A graveside services will be at 11:00 am Saturday October 12, 2024 at Tanner Cemetery in Burkeville, Texas.
Karen Sue Doyle Smith, age 73, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at Avalon Place in Kirbyville, Texas. She was born in DeRidder, Louisiana on May 25, 1951. Karen was married to Kenneth Edward Smith for 43 years. She worked as the manager of the Dollar General in Merryville, Louisiana for 30 years. Karen adored her children and grandchildren and enjoyed working in her garden. She was also a faithful member of the United Pentecostal Church in Bon Wier, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her parents Lenard and Sylvia Doyle, her husband Kenneth Edward Smith, her sister Sylvia Anne Doyle, and brother Bo Doyle.
Karen is survived by her daughters Amber Emerson of Willis, Texas and Amanda Morrison and her husband Scott Morrison of Mont Belvieu, Texas; her grandchildren; Justin, Hiedi, Blake, Chandler, Haley, Zack and her great grandchildren Nevaeh and Jax. She is also survived by siblings, Adra Smith and her husband Terry Smith of Granite City, Illinois, her sister Mary Doyle of Erwin, North Carolina, and brother Gary Doyle and his wife Debbie of Merryville, Louisiana.
The family would like to thank Doris Smith, her sister-in-law, for her love and devotion to Karen. Doris loved and cared for Karen and visited her often in the nursing home. They are forever grateful for her kindness and dedication. They would also like to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses, doctors and staff at Avalon Place and Olive Branch Hospice for their continuous compassion, love, and support of Karen while she was in their care.
Funeral Services will be, visitation Friday October 11, 2024 from 3pm until service time at 4pm. Services will be held at the Bon Wier United Pentecostal Church.
Harriette E. Martin, 84, passed away October 05, 2024 in Lufkin, Texas. Ms. Martin was born March 03, 1940 to Francis and Shirley Eckler Rose.
She was a resident of Newton, Texas for many years. She worked for the Newton Library for 25 Years.
Harriette was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Robert James Martin.
She is survived by her sons, Scott Martin and wife Donna of Chadwicks, New York, and James Martin and wife Maria of Needville, Texas; daughters, Sherry Christiansen and husband Bob of Camden, New York, and Sandra Scott and husband Cody of Newton, Texas; brother, Larry Rose of Ilion, New York; sister, Norma Jean Hart of Trenton, New York; grandchildren, Josh, Samantha, Ashley, and Bradley; great grandchildren, Malorie, Bradley, Westin, Kennedie, Cullen and Luke.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am Friday October 11, 2024 at Our Lady-La Salette Mission Church in Kirbyville, Texas. Visitation will be Thursday from 5pm until 8pm at Smith Funeral Home in Newton.
Ms. Martin will be greatly missed and remembered by all who knew and loved her.
James (Jimmy) Thomas Inman of Bon Wier, Texas passed away October 05, 2024 at Christus St. Elizabeth in Beaumont, Texas.
Mr. Inman was born July 23, 1954 in Newton, Texas to Henry Curtis Inman Sr., and Ruby Mildred Smith Inman.
Jimmy worked for many years as a construction supervisor.
A Masonic graveside Service will be on Tuesday October 08, 2024 at 11:00 am at Inman Cemetery in Bon Wier, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Velma Carol Stamps.
Survivors include sons, J.C. Inman of Bon Wier, Jacob Inman of Kountze; brother Henry Curtis Inman of Bon Wier; and grandchildren, Ruby and Leila.
Jimmy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
