Leslie Jean Oates, 68, of Wiergate, Texas, passed away January 07, 2025 at her residence.
She was born August 08, 1956 in Jasper, Texas to J.B. Smith Jr. and Alice Evans Smith.
Ms. Oates is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Warren David Oates; and great grandson, Keagan Scott.
She is survived by sons, Tim Scott and wife Michele of Burkeville, and Kevin Scott and wife Peggy of Jasper; daughters, Renee Wasson and husband Charles of Burkeville, and Kable Oates and husband Josh King of Burkeville; brothers, Darrell Smith of Burkeville, and George Smith of Burkeville; fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
She will be greatly remembered and missed by all who knew and loved her.
A graveside service under the direction of Smith Funeral Home will be 2:00 pm Sunday January 12, 2025 at Sycamore Cemetery in Burkeville, Texas.
Visitation will be Saturday January 11, 2025 from 5pm until 7pm at Smith Funeral Home.
Lisa Kay Lee, 64, of Newton, Texas passed away January 06, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 20, 1960 in Canton, Mississippi to Evelyn and Norman Troy McDaniel.
Lisa was very passionate about her job as a nurse. She loved her plants, working in the yard, and her dogs Dixie and Max. But most of all she loved her grandchildren.
Lisa is preceded in death by her parents, and daughter, Amber Lee.
She is survived by her loving husband, Rickey Lee of Newton, Tx; son, Victor Lee and wife Ania of San Antonio, Tx; daughter, Chelsey Fomby and husband Chris of Newton, Tx; brother Troy McDaniel of Snyder, Tx; sister, Patricia Warren and husband Paul of Snyder, Tx; grandchildren, Averie Fomby and Evelyn Fomby.
Lisa will be missed and remembered by all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Thomas Darren Fowler, 65, of Kirbyville, Texas, Passed away January2, 2025 at his residence. He was born October 12, 1959 in Houston, Texas to Charles Henry and Norma Faye Davison Fowler.
Mr. Fowler served our country in the United States Air Force.
He worked as a Material Organizer in the construction field for many years after he left the military.
He is preceded in death by his parents, children, Carrie Orozco and Brandy Carnline.
Survivors include his wife, Melba Louise Fowler of Kirbyville, Texas; daughters, Wendy England of Arkansas, and Heather Fowler of League City, Texas; brothers, Michael Fowler of Newton, Texas, Charles Keith Fowler of Beebe, Arkansas, and Randy Fowler of Little Rock, Arkansas; sister, Lori McCowan of Little Rock, Arkansas; grandchildren, Vanessa Hernandez, Victoria Seals, Ethan Hernandez, Vivianna Orazco, Grace Elmore, Audrey Elmore, Coraline Tobias, Michael Tobias, Aniya Tobias, Aaron Henry, Emily Henry, Reese Langley, and Presley England; great grandchildren, Levi Henry, and Miles Milan.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday January 11, 2025 at Smith Funeral Home in Newton, Texas. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until service time.
Mr. Fowler is greatly missed.
Jerry Lynn Stamps, 82, of Jasper, TX, passed from this life on Friday,
January 3, 2025.
Jerry was born September 29, 1942 at the Merryville, LA. He was a United States Navy Veteran who served on the flight deck of the USS Constellation
Aircraft supercarrier during the
Vietnam War. His private industry employments included jobs in supervision at Newton, Bon Wier,
and Fort Worth.
Jerry was a member of Galilee Baptist Church in Evans and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with
family and friends.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving daughters, Julie Pavkovich of Sequim, WA and Wendi Woods of Bremerton, WA,; sister, Greta Keller and Tim of Leesville, LA; brothers, Joe Rowe of Jasper, TX, Larry Stamps and Juanita of Newton, TX, Thomas Stamps and Jackie of Merryville, LA, Glenn Stamps of Merryville, LA, David Stamps of Merryville, LA,; three grandchildren, Thomas Myers, Rasor Woods, and Graci Woods; one great grandchild, Easton Woods, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Millie Rowe; father, Wacy Stamps; sister Cathy Stamps Lott; brother, James Stamps; and grandchild, James Michael Stamps.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, January 6, 2025, at Cooper Cemetery Chapel, Hwy 190, Merryville, LA. Brother Wade Carroll and Sister Annette Peveto will officiate the
service. Pallbearers will be Joe Rowe, Chris Rowe, Tim Keller, Jared Nash, Mark Durand, and Reese Durand. Interment will follow at Cooper Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home Newton, Texas.
Zelda Fern Holloway Monday, 82, of Newton, Texas, passed away January 2, 2025 at her residence surrounded by loved ones.
She was born March 05, 1942 in Aransas Pass, Texas, to Cleveland and Elsie Reins Holloway.
Zelda was a retired hairdresser.
She is preceded in death by her parents, son, Kenneth Ware; brothers, Cleveland Holloway Jr., Coy Edmund Holloway, Billy Gene Holloway, Ernest Newton Holloway, Horace Mearle Holloway, Charles Jones; and a sister, Fay Helen Schaver.
Survivors include sons, Chris Ware of Lufkin, Charles Ware of Oklahoma, and David Ware of Newton; daughter, Brenda Park of Newton; a sister, Lula Jones; seven grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday January 04, 2025 at Smith Funeral Home in Newton, Texas. Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm on Saturday until funeral services. Burial will follow the service at Newton City Cemetery.

Avie Lula Hall, 77, of Newton, Texas, passed away December 23, 2024 at Shady Acres Health and Rehabilitation in Newton. She was born October 28, 1947 in Evans, Louisiana to Mark and Nezzie Johnson Jarrell.
Avie worked many years as a healthcare work.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Matt Shane Hall, Curtis Lilly, C.W. Boykin, and Neil Nash; daughter, Regina Womack; brothers, Burnett Jarrell, James Jarrell, and Curtis Jarrell; and sister, Hazel Dixon.
Survivors include daughters, Clarice Nash of Burr Ferry, La, Kathy Lilly and Homer Woods of Newton, Christy Strickland and Jeff of Barstow, Ca; and son-in-law, Allen Womack; grandchildren, Jonathan, Travis, Katland, Logan, Aston, Joslyn and Nevaeh; eleven great grandchildren and expecting another.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Sunday December 29, 2024 at Smith Funeral Home in Newton, Texas with burial at Tanner Cemetery in Burkeville. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until service time Sunday.
Ms. Hall will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her.
