Sharon Rose Yancey, 69, of Bon Wier, Texas passed away March 19, 2024 in Beaumont, Texas. She was born February 10, 1955 in Greenup, Kentucky to Willie and Marie Donnelly Tolliver.
She worked many years as a department manager for Wal-mart.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and a son, Curtis Young.

Survivors include son, Christopher Weddle of California; daughters, Kristy Everitt and Jimmy Smith of Bon Wier, and Jennifer Robinson and husband Joshua of Kilgore; brothers, Russell Sullivan of Deport, Texas, Vernon Sullivan of Deport, Texas, Gene Shepherd of Kentucky, Paul White of Michigan, and Charles Sullivan of Ohio; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Sharon will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be Friday March 22, 2024 from 5pm until 8pm. Funeral services will be 4pm Saturday March 23, 2024 at Smith Funeral Home.

Harold was born December 31st, 1933 in Fairmount, Texas to Osborn and Brady Smith. At the age of 17 he moved to Nederland, TX to attend a four year carpentry program at Lamar University while also working at the Chevron, Gulf and Texaco Refineries in Port Arthur, TX where he continued to work for 33 years.
Harold met Nelda during grade school in Hemphill, TX and they were married on December 25th 1954.
His retirement brought he and Nelda to Newton, TX where they have lived and loved for over forty years. During this time, Harold worked with his brother and nephew constructing homes and apartments. He and Nelda also built a lovely home and were the owners of Harold’s Storage in Newton.
After the work was done, Harold and the love of his life, Nelda often traveled the highways of the United States with friends and relatives, making many wonderful memories along the way.
Harold is survived by his beautiful wife of 69 years, Nelda Stewart Smith, four nieces, Cheryl Wilkinson, Connie King, Nancy Wilson, and Karen Butler and three nephews, Windell Smith, Mark Smith, and Michael Smith.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Arlis Smith, Elbert Smith, and his nephew Donnie Smith.
Harold was loved by many and respected by all; he was a man of his word who never failed to follow through on a promise.
He will be greatly missed.
Layo Emanuel Sharp Sr. was born on December 13, 1942, to the late
Rev. Henderson Sharp and Lillie May Simmons Lewis in Hemphill,
Texas. Layo was called Son by his family and Greasy by his friends.
Layo attended J. H. Rowe in Jasper Texas, and played the trumpet in
the band. Layo met and fell in love with Alice Faye Gill of Jasper
Texas. They

Layo attended J. H. Rowe in Jasper Texas, and played the trumpet in
the band. Layo met and fell in love with Alice Faye Gill of Jasper
Texas. They were married on September 17, 1963.
Layo had a passion for cars. He worked at Jacks Junk yard where he
could rebuild old cars. Layo wanted a better life for his family. In 1966
he took a chance and moved his wife, two babies, and 17 year old
play son Carl Henry Collins to Connecticut, Where he was baptized
into the Church of Christ.
They later moved to Pittsfield, Massachusetts where he was given an
opportunity to work for Johnson Lincoln and Mercury which started
his career. He went to school for Ford Motor Company in Detroit,
Michigan where he earned high acculaides for his mechanical work.
He was the best in his field. He earned the prestigious title of Master
Service Technician. In 1976 he was able to be transferred to Charlie
Thomas Ford in Houston, Texas so he and his wife could be closer to
their Mothers. He retired from Charlie Thomas Ford after 25 years of
service.
Layo and his family moved to Newton, Texas where their vacation
home became their permanent home. He raised his 6 children and a
few grandchildren, and stayed there until his last days.
Layo loved his family and friends. On any given day he could be found
working on a car, cooking a spread or catering a large event. No one
could ever forget about his famous Sharp and Sons barbecue.
Layo was a generous and humble man. He loved to help his
community in any way possible and never met a stranger. He made
everyone feel welcome and a part of his family. His life and legacy are
truly one that was blessed by God. He will be missed dearly by all
who knew me.
Layo is survived by his wife of 60 years Alice Faye Sharp; ten
children; Jody E Sharp Sr ( Detra ), Angela Williams, LeMarcia Arnold
( Tommy ), Layo E Sharp Jr ( Latoicia ), Laquarius Sharp, Kokelia
Sharp, Dwight E Sharp, Deion E Sharp, Donta E Sharp (Keisha) ,
Shonta Sharp, and two bonus sons, Carl H Collins ( Rose ), and
Matthew E Sharp. Layo also leaves behind thirty one grandchildren,
thirty-two great grandchildren, one great - great grandchild, two
brothers; Lester Simmons and Johnny Lewis and one sister Mary
Rutledge. He was preceded in death by his parents; Rev Henderson
Sharp and Lillie Mae Simmons, three sisters Erma Crumedy, Margie
Williams, and Mary Simmons.

DZ, Freight Shaker, was a master truck driver for most of his life. He knew everything there was to know about the big rigs. He could haul ANYTHING he could put on his trailer. He was laid back, fun loving and comical! He loved his motorcycle, his dog Bear, and being around his friends. If he could help you, He Would!! Shaker was baptized at Grace Bible Church and will be laid to rest in Short Cemetery in Center, Texas.

Kay Lynne Davis, 72, passed away on Saturday, March 2, at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, with family members at her side. She had been suffering from an illness and had been hospitalized for several weeks.

Kay Lynne Davis, 72, passed away on Saturday, March 2, at Baptist Hospital in Beaumont, with family members at her side. She had been suffering from an illness and had been hospitalized for several weeks.
Services are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Newton. Visitation will take place Wednesday, March 6, 2024, 5-8 p.m., at the funeral home. A service will take place Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 3 p.m., also at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Newton City Cemetery.
A lifelong resident of Newton and Jasper counties, she was born to Jack and Catherine Davis on April 29, 1951, in Jasper. She attended Newton ISD schools, graduating with honors from Newton High School in 1969. After graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Dan Davis, on Oct. 18, 1969. In the coming years, the couple became parents to daughter Jennifer and son Clint.
Kay loved to cook and show her love to her family by preparing their favorite dishes. She was a devoted wife and mother and a doting grandmother who took pride in her children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. She also treasured her cat companions, Mikie and Boo. Although she coped with numerous health issues, she maintained a positive outlook and an admirable strength of character that inspired all who knew her. Her kindness, generosity and caring demeanor will endure in the hearts of family and friends.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents; her brother-in-law, Bill Walker; and her special niece, Jill Walker. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 54 years, Dan Davis, of Newton; a daughter, Jennifer Gunter and husband James, of Jasper; a son, Clint Davis and wife Kelley, of Jasper; her beloved sister and best friend, Jackie Walker, of Newton; two grandchildren, Nick Davis and girlfriend Madyson, of Groves, and Jenna Davis Freeman and husband Jacob, of Orange; a step-granddaughter, Emily Gunter and sons, of Angleton; three step-grandsons, Lane, Dylan and Dawson Howard, of Buna; and other family members and friends.
