He was a 1956 graduate of Newton High School, Newton TX;
a United States Airforce Veteran;
his career was in banking and finance until retiring in 2018;
after retiring he relocated from his home in Huntsville, TX and moved to Thailand where he was happily living the dream.
Throughout his life he had a passion for golfing, fishing, hunting and traveling;
and he was an avid fan of the
Newton Eagles,
UT Longhorns
and
New Orleans Saints
football teams.
Daddy’s presence in our lives brought immeasurable joy, love, and laughter, and for that, we are forever grateful.
We will carry forward the love and laughter he brought into our lives. Though he may no longer be with us in body, his spirit will forever echo in our hearts, reminding us to cherish each moment and hold tight to the bonds of family.
Services were held on 10 July 2024 at the beautiful Ban Don Yang Chanthararam Temple and Crematorium in Kamalasai Subdistrict, Kamalasai District, Kalasin, Thailand with his children in attendance.
His cremains will be placed in family crypt at Greenwood Cemetery in New Orleans, LA.

A celebration of life for Dena Sue Walthall Johnson 66, of Port Arthur will be 11:00 am Monday, July 29, 2024 at Smith Funeral Home Newton, Tx with burial to follow at Newton City Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00pm until 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
Dena passed away July 24, 2024 in Beaumont, Tx.
She was born June 24, 1958 in Jasper, Tx.
Dena worked as a Service Coordinator for MHMR for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents Talmadge and Nelda.
Dena is survived by the love of her life whom she was married to for 43 years, Gary Michael Johnson of Port Arthur; brother, Tim Walthall and wife Jane of Lumberton; sister, Tammy Riley of Waxahachie; sister-in-law, Denise Montalvo of Bridge City; brother-in-law, James Kelly Johnson of Port Arthur; nephew, Trent Walthall of Nederland; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Dena will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her.
Ola Elizabeth (Farr) Wilkinson of Brazoria Texas, formerly of Newton Texas, went to be with her heavenly father on July 10, 2024 at 97 years old. She was born February 16, 1927 to Ora Lee Farr and Lillie Vivian (Martin) Farr.
Ola graduated from Newton High School in 1944. She married the love of her life Joseph Wilkinson Jr. on June 15, 1944. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Newton for many years. She was active working with the homebound. After moving to Brazoria she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Brazoria where she and Joe enjoyed fellowship with the Senior Adults.
Ola was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 75 years, her sisters Emmagene (Otto) Weeks, Louise (Hoyt) Stringer, Marilyn (Bill) Adams, and her brothers Leslie (Wanice) Farr, Ira (Genoma) Farr.
Ola is survived by her sons Joseph Wilkinson III (Cheryl) and Dale Arthur (Melyndia) Wilkinson; grandchildren Stacy (Keith) Hartsell, Elizabeth (Bill) McDaniel, Jay (Tonya) Wilkinson, Wade (Jennifer) Wilkinson, and Charles Wilkinson. Ten great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Service will be held Saturday July 27that Smith Funeral Home in Newton Texas, with Bro. Kenny Rawls officiating. Visitation will be at 1:00 with funeral at 2:00. Burial will follow at Wilkinson Cemetery.

A Celebration of life for Melbern Mitchell, 84, of Newton will be Friday July 12, 2024 from 5pm until 8pm at Smith Funeral Home in Newton, Texas. A graveside service will be 2:00 pm Saturday at Fairmont Cemetery in Fairmont, Texas.
Melbern passed away July 10, 2024 in Jasper, Texas.
He was born April 25, 1940 in Survey, Tx in Sabine County, to Marvin “Red” and Mitti Elzory Sibley Mitchell. He worked for many years for Kirby Lumber Company.
Melbern was a “Country Boy” who was straight forward and loved things simple.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Reba Mitchell; daughter, Edna Sue Myers; brothers, Robert Artiss Mitchell, Von Angelo Mitchell, Othel Wright Mitchell; and baby sister Mitchell.
Survivors include sons, Dale Mitchell and wife Ingrig of Spring, Texas, and Wesley Mitchell and wife Tina of Newton, Texas; sister, Rena Nell Mitchell of Sealy, Texas; grandchildren, Rachel Nicole, Richard Arliss, Charles Dale, Michael Dale, Matthew Monto-Brew and James Beau; great grandchildren, Dalton Mitchell and Violet L. Mitchell.
Funeral services for Jimmy Doyle Simmons, 79, of Newton, Texas will be 10:00 am Wednesday July 10, 2024 at Union Missionary Baptist Church in Newton, with burial to follow at Old Union Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until service time.
Mr. Simmons passed away July 06, 2024 at his residence. Jimmy was born January 03, 1945 in Newton, Texas to Ramsey and Annie Lou Simmons. He was a lifelong resident of Newton. He was a farmer and had chicken houses.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lucille Simmons, and grandchild Logan Anthony Simmons.
He is survived by his children, Jerry Simmons and wife Karen of Buna, Mark Simmons and wife Nikki of Hemphill and Michelle Westbrook and husband Marc of Newton; siblings, Doris Mitchell of DeRidder, La., John Lloyd Simmons and wife Carolyn of Buna, and Paul Simmons wife Frances of Newton; grandchildren, Ashley Kirby and husband Robin, Kyle Westbrook and wife Jade, Magan Whitaker, Jeremy Simmons, Lindsay Adams and husband Sammy, Lori McGalin and husband Dustin, Dustin Nichols and wife Lindsay, Sydney Perry and husband Kurt, Chassidy Simmons, and Clarissa Simmons; great grandchildren, Noah Whitaker, Raylee Kirby, Aubry Branch Kirby, Blair Westbrook, Asher Westbrook, Rafe Westbrook, Bethany Nichols, Jennifer Nichols, Easton Nichols, Jaidyn Adams, Maliki Adams, Colin Adams, Hudson McGalin, Maddox McGalin, and Millie McGalin; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Jimmy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jerome "Jerry" Douglas Norton embarked on his final journey on July 6, 2024, in Houston, Texas. He battled leukemia until his joyous end. He was born in Port Arthur Texas on November 10, 1952 to Jacqueline and Joseph Douglas Norton. Jerry was known for lighting up rooms and hearts with his charismatic and infectious outgoing personality. He was a proud patriot serving in both the Air Force and the National Guard for 14 years. He worked on B-52 bombers and KC135s during his military career and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. Through and through, Jerry loved God, family and country. During his life he was blessed to obtain numerous roles such as devoted husband to his Bride of almost 52 years, beloved father to 3 children, cherished Papa Honey to his 4 beautiful grandchildren, loyal loving brother, dependable friend that everyone counted on and devout Christian deeply rooted and saved by the Blood of Jesus. Jerome's zest for life was unparalleled, matched only by his unwavering courage and contagious sense of humor. He never met a stranger. He navigated Life’s ups and downs with the ease and grace of a seasoned veteran and family man, leaving a wake of laughter and love everywhere he went. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and often enjoyed time at his family ranch the Ponderosa in Newton, Texas. He loved to garden, give profound advice, fishing with his grandkids, and tinkering with things. Jerry was full of love, from the tender compassion he imprinted on his mother's heart to his unwavering devotion to Margaret his "better half." He was a man with many accomplishments through his journey of life, but the most important one was his unwavering relationship with God our Almighty father. He shared his love for God everywhere he went regardless of the situation. He earned a degree in Computer Aided Drafting, and was a Process Operator employed by Texaco/Huntsman for 37 years. He also owned and operated a Pest Control company for over 30 years. He is held in loving memory by his wife, Margaret Norton, his son Jeremy Norton and favorite Daughter-in-law, Susan of Bridge City, Texas. Son, Joshua Norton of Newton, Texas and the apple of his eye, daughter, Jalisha and her husband, his favorite son-in-law, Cory Klein, of Bridge City, Texas. Jerome was blessed with 4 amazing grandchildren: Benjamin Klein, Adalyn Klein, Jaxon Klein, and Indy Klein of Bridge City. He was an "novice" harmonica player and loved to play with and sing to his grandbabies every chance he got. Countless other family members and friends that will cherish him and will serve as a tribute to his life. He is now in the embrace of those who reported to heaven before him.
A final roll call and celebration of life for Jerome will be held at Liberty Baptist on Friday, July 12, 2024. Visitation will start at 5:00pm. Brother Terry Wright will officiate starting at 6:00 pm. A Private Christian burial will take place at 11:00am on July 13, 2024 at the Ponderosa Farm and Family Ranch Cemetery in Newton, Texas.
