Clifford Glen Key Sr., 91, of Newton, Texas passed away November 28, 2023. He was born October 24, 1932 to Clifford Lee and Lura Francis Hutcherson Key.
Glen was a Christian man who passed saying his nightly prayers. He was the best husband a woman could ask for. He was the best daddy and friend a child could ask for. Glen was a hard worker and worked until he was 83 years old. That was the last time he was on the dozer. He was a wonderful kind father-in-law.
Glen loved a good argument especially if he knew he was right, and he thought he was right most of the time.
If you traveled with him don’t have an itinerary because you were going to end up in the woods.
He taught his kids to be independent and hard workers, to value life and put others first. He was funny and witty up until the end.
The family wants to thank his son Clifford and wife Kathy for the time and care they gave our daddy in the end. The family would like to say a special thank you to Channel Stouffer for helping take care of our daddy. Also thank you to hospice workers Amanda, Scott, Hope and Brother Paul Swearingen of Olive Branch.

Jeff Walker, age 75, of Newton, TX passed away at home on October 30, 2023 after a long illness.
Jeff was born on May 15, 1948 to J.D. and Dorothy Walker in Jacksonville, TX. Jeff grew up in the Pinegrove community. He graduated from Newton High School in 1966. Jeff attended Kilgore Junior College on a football scholarship. After leaving college, he worked with his dad and brothers in the family construction business, J.D. Walker & Sons and later, J.D. Walker’s Sons. They built many homes in Newton and Jasper counties. Between 1972-1981, they did the first major renovations to the Newton County Courthouse and Newton Independent School District campuses.
Jeff married Judy Adams on June 24, 1972 and they had three sons: Jeffrey, Jr., Carl and Scott. In 1981, he moved his family to Tomball, TX where he formed a partnership, Collier and Walker with his friend, Mike Collier. They worked in Houston and surrounding areas constructing facilities for Southwestern Bell, schools, and other civic and private buildings.
In 1986, Jeff and Judy relocated their family back to the piney woods of Newton County to build the Newton County Civic Center. He formed Jeff Walker Enterprises, Inc. and continued with commercial construction in the East Texas area. He was known throughout East Texas as “the overall man” as he built schools for Lufkin, Hudson, Huntington, Colmesneil, Jasper, Newton and other ISDs. He constructed several facilities on the Alabama-Coushatta Reservation and other projects in East Texas and Louisiana.
Jeff was a true “workaholic”. Even after his health forced him into early retirement in 2004, he was constantly planning projects; drawing plans and mapping out strategies to keep Jeffrey, Carl, Scott and anyone else around busy! He became very involved in stock market investments. He spent hours every day researching and trading stocks. He, also, began developing rental properties. Jeff enjoyed hunting and fishing but his greatest joy was time spent with his grandchildren: Caitlyn, Shelby, Dylan and Grace. You would find him loudly cheering Caitlyn, Shelby & Dylan on at baseball, softball, football games and track meets. He attended piano and dance recitals, art shows, school plays and beauty pageants. He loved attending Grandparents’ Day at school or just stopping by to eat lunch at the school cafeteria with Grace. He was so proud of them all!
Jeff was a strong, committed Christian. During his lifetime, he was a member of numerous churches. He was one of a small group which founded Grace Bible Church in Newton and he was instrumental in building the original church and family life center. His last years, he was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church, Deweyville, Texas.
Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, John David (J.D,) and Dorothy Walker; his son, Jeffrey Lynn Walker, Jr., brother, John David (Bud) Walker of Newton, sister, Linda Walker Rowland of San Antonio.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years, Judy Adams Walker, and his sons and daughters: Carl and Susan Walker and Scott and Jennifer Walker of Newton. Grandchildren: Caitlyn Mitchner of Orange, Shelby Lynn Walker, Dylan Scott Walker and Ava Grace Walker of Newton. His brothers: Tommy Walker and wife Athena of Clarksville, TN, and Mark Walker and wife Rhonda of Nacogdoches, TX as well as, many beloved family and friends.
