After, returning home, Coy began work at the Texas Company (Texaco Refinery) in 1949 displaying commendable skills and unwavering work ethic for 35 years as an insulator until his retirement in 1984. He was a dedicated employee and still carried his Texaco ID card from 1954 in his wallet, some 71 years later. His career was a testament to his commitment and craftsmanship, embodying values that resonated deeply with those who had the pleasure of knowing him. Coy was known as a fair, kind man who had many friends and was highly respected. His goal was to be retired for as long as he was employed by Texaco. He achieved that milestone when he reached 90 years of age. Retirement did not slow Coy down; instead, it gave him the opportunity to serve others, refurbish street-side discoveries, and tend to his garden which he maintained for decades.

The shared a deep love for each other that provided a foundation for a long marriage. They greeted each other every day in the morning and said good night every evening with a hug and kiss. They settled in Groves, Texas raising three boys, and Coy never missed a chance to show them support by coaching their teams, attending school events, and teaching them the value of hard work and service.
Coy was known for his love of gardening and could often be seen working in his trademark overalls or coveralls. He found great joy in showing off his crop to anyone who came by for a visit, and for sharing his crop with those who loved fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, greens, potatoes and peppers. Coy was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church and Grace Baptist Church for over 60 years. He spent a significant amount of time helping to build the Central Baptist Church building. He was well known for his humorous and adventurous stories at the annual church Thanksgiving dinner!
Coy’s life was a beautiful journey that touched the hearts of all who knew him. Coy will be remembered not just for his achievements, but for his love of life, for the love he had for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and his love for his family.
