Mary Frances Gifford of Newton, Texas passed away August 28, 2024 at the age of 101, at her residence. She was born February 28, 1923 in Charleston, West Virginia to Quince and Goldie Bell Ford Dunlop.
She moved to Newton County in 1982 were she made many memories.
Ms. Gifford is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a son, William Keith Manthorpe.
She is survived by son, Marston Manthorpe and wife Joyce of San Diego, California; daughters, Jeannette Wells of Coleridge, Nebraska, Kathryn Johnson and husband Dwight of Norman, Oklahoma, and Carolyn Frances Manthorpe of Bon Wier, Texas; ten grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.
Ms. Gifford will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her.
A celebration of life service will be held for Ms. Gifford at a future date.
Funeral services for Dorothy Jean Miller, of Jasper, Texas will be 1:00 pm Friday August 23, 2024 at Smith Funeral Home in Newton, Texas. Visitation will be from noon Friday until service time. Burial will be at Ford cemetery following the service.
Dorothy was born February 27, 1936 in Wiergate, Texas to Eugene and Lillie Mae Williams Jordan. She worked many years in the Accounting Department for Conn’s.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, husband William C Butchee, and husband, J.D. Miller; brother, Luke Jordan; sisters, Kathryn Fannin, Helen Lynch, Alma Fowler, and Eloise Stark; and many nieces and nephews.
She is survived by son, William Butchee of San Marcus, Tx; daughter, Marcella Worthey and husband Glenn of Beaumont, Tx; grandchildren, Kyle, Brett, Trent and Ryan Worthey and Jacob Butchee; many nieces and nephews.
She was a wonderful Mother, Memaw and Aunt.
Dorothy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Warren Taswell Hyatt Sr., age 61 of Bon Wier, Texas passed away August 9, 2024 in Deridder, Louisiana. Warren was born September 11, 1962 to Edward Lee and Frances Henley Hyatt.
He worked many years as an operator for the Sawmills and enjoyed doing woodwork in his spare time.
Warren is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tommy Caraway; sister Paula Darlene Hyatt; sister-in-law, Sonya Caraway; daughter-in-law, Crystal Hyatt; and a nephew, Bryan Ellis.
Survivors include his son, Warren (Taz) Hyatt Jr. and fiancé Kelsey Stivender; daughters, Autum Koepp and husband Timothy Koepp, and August Hyatt; eight grandchildren, Serenity, Athena, and Harper, Keegen, Emersen, Clinton, Henleigh and Darcy, sister, Nadine Ellis and husband Jeffery (Doc) Ellis Sr.; brother, Paul Hyatt and wife Liz Hyatt; and many nephews, nieces, great and great great nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be 10 am Saturday August 17, 2024 at United Pentecostal Church in Bon Wier, Texas with burial to follow at Ford Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5pm until 9pm at the church.
Charles Wayne Powell, 71, of Shelbyville, Texas passed away on August 11, 2024. Wayne was born September 07, 1952 in Jasper, Texas.
Wayne served his country in United States Army.
He enjoyed hunting, trot line fishing, gardening, and he loved reading western books.
He is preceded in death by his father, Harvey Roy Powell; mother, Lisa Leona Kincel Jones; sister, Mary Powell; brothers, Gary Dean Powell; nephew, Joey McClelland; father-in-law, T.V. McClelland Jr.; brother-in-laws James R. Nowlin, and Frank Goodman; sister-in-laws, Ola Gail Nowlin and Beverly McClelland; cousin, Elosie Kincel; friends, and numerous other family members on both sides.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Opal Powell; daughters, Tonya Jacobs, Elizabeth Damery, Ashley Damery Powell and Lily Dalton; mother-in-law; Nancy Flouinay; one brother, Harvey Ray Powell; sister-in-laws, Dana, Daisy, Sandra, and Amber; brother-in-laws, Dallas, Dena, Sheldon and Theo; he had seven grandchildren, Nolan and Katelyn Hill, Payton Taylor, Lily and Zack Dalton, Jamie Espinosa, Emerald Espinosa, Serenity Soto, and Bella Soto; Wayne also had three great grandchildren, Ryder Hill, Zoe Hill and David Wayne Dalton; and many nieces, nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday August 17, 2024 at Smith Funeral Home in Newton, Texas, with burial at Weeks Chapel Cemetery in Jasper County, Texas.
Visitation will be Friday August 16, 2024 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm and Saturday 1:00 pm until service time at the funeral home.
Wayne will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him dearly.
Jerry Lampton Crowder 88, of Burkeville, TX passed away July 30, 2024, in Jasper, TX.
Jerry was born November 19, 1935 in Carthage, Ark. to Jesse and Myrtice Harrison Crowder. He was a carpenter by trade.
A graveside service will be 10 am Friday August 2, 2024 at Spears Chapel Cemetery.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Carolyn Ramsey Crowder; daughter, Patricia Harvey; Jerry’s infant twin brother, Gary Crowder and brother Jack Crowder and sister Bonnie Culvert.
Survivors include son, Mark Crowder and wife Joyce of Burkeville; daughters Connie Crowder and partner Vern Folks of Longview, Tx, and Tammy Jarrell of Burkeville, Tx. sister, Linda Clemons of Gilmer, TX; thirteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and expecting one.
Jerry will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Arlene Davis 75, of Newton passed from this earth on July 28, 2024, at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born October 21, 1948 to Daisy Brinkley Powell and Samuel Arlie Powell. She was the baby of the family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Flaudia McMahon, and Betty Fullen; one brother Wayne Powell.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jimmy Davis; daughter, Theresa Bailey and husband James of Hampshire, Tx; son, Harold “Flip” Davis and wife Amy of Atkinson, Ne; grandchildren, Kristian Riley, Dustin Bailey, Katerine Hipke, and Cody Davis; great grandchildren, Bayleigh, Karris, Hunter, Augustus (Gus), Orrin and Eli, sister Jean Davis of Newton; brother Leonard Powell and wife Paulette of Deweyville; and special friends, Johnny and Rita Smith and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Arlene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She never met a stranger; she was outgoing and a giving person. If you dropped by to visit you would be fed, hungry or not. She loved to cook, garden and mow.
Arlene’s family will have a gathering of family and friends at their home on Saturday August 3, 2024 at 4 pm. Feel free to stop by and visit, tell a story or listen to one.
There will be no traditional services.
