Jeffery Wayne "Doc" Ellis Sr.

  Jeffery Wayne “Doc” Ellis Sr. passed away August 05, 2025 at his residence. Doc was born May 26, 1957 to Ernest Orville Ellis and Elsie Irene Nash David. 

 

He served our country proudly in the United States Army. Doc worked construction as a millwright for many years. 


Doc was preceded in death by parents, Inlaws, Ed and Frances Hyatt; foster parents, Kenneth “KR” Smith and Joyce Witte, son, Bryan Ellis, sisters, Glenda and Kathy; sister-in-law, Paula Darlene; brother-in-laws, Tommy, Grady, Allen and Warren; and foster brothers, David and Johnny.


Survivors include his wife, Mattie Nadine Ellis of Bon Wier, Texas; sons, Jeffery Ellis Jr. and fiancé Heather Mills of Bon, Wier, Texas, Paul Ellis and wife Cheyenne of Bon Wier, Texas;; daughter, Kaylyn Vosti and husband Glen of Newton, Texas; grandsons, Medallion and Kenndi Vosti of Bon Wier, Texas, Levi Ellis and Axal Phelps of Texas, River Ellis of Bon Wier, Texas; granddaughters, Zakyla Vosti of Houston, Texas, Jazlyn Vosti of Newton, Texas, Addison, Eda and Pauly Ellis of Bon Wier, Texas; great grandson, Cohen Vosti of Bon Wier, Texas; brother, Zeno Ellis; brother-in-law, Paul and Liz Hyatt; foster sisters, Julie and Don Hurtgen, Amy and Michael Bowman, and Angie Williams; a host of nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces; a host of honorary grandchildren. 


Funeral services will be 10:00 am Saturday August 09, 2025 at Bon Wier United Pentecostal Church in Bon Wier, Texas with burial to follow at Ford Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at the church. 


Doc will be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved him.

Cora Clois Smith of Kirbyville passed August 2, 2025 in Jasper, Texas. Cora was born December 13, 1943 in 

Cushing , Texas to Reverend J.T.  and Cora Byrd Whitton.  


Cora was a home health caregiver for Texas Home Health for many years. 


She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, LaDonna Sue Smith; three brothers and two sisters. 


Survivors include son, Steve Smith and wife Jo Ellen of Kirbyville, Texas; Adopted by heart, Joey Watson; granddaughters, Shelly Smith and Sindi Smith; great grandchildren, Landin Spears, Brendan Wilson, Addilynn Trammell, Kyson Spears, Raylen Jones, Kase Spears, Bryston Watts and Klayton Smith.


Funeral services will be 10:00 am Friday August 08, 2025 at Kirbyville Apostolic Church under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Newton, Texas. Visitation will be Thursday August 07, 2025 from 5:00pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. 


Cora will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Gene Raymond Cordeau

  Funeral services for Gene Raymond Cordeau will be 10:00 am Friday August 01, 2025 at Grace Church in Newton, Texas, under the direction of Smith Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the church. 


Gene passed away July 28, 2025 at his residence in Bon Wier, Texas. 


He was born September 13, 1940 in Port Arthur, Texas to John Henry and Bertha Fountain Cordeau. 


Gene proudly served our country in the United States Air Force. He worked for many years as an equipment operator for Firestone/ Bridgestone. 


He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Donald Cordeau; and a sister Frances Gordon. 


Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Jo Kelley Cordeau of Bon Wier; sons, Michael Hudson and wife Genever of Krotz Springs, Louisiana; Ricky Wade Hudson and wife Sharla Kay of Coppers Cove, Texas, Gerry Shane Cordeau of Dacula, Georgia. Step son, Jason Jones of Bon Wier, Texas. Step Daughter, Sylvia Duhon and husband Marty of Bon Wier, Texas; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Gene will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

 Dorothea Jean Davis, 93, of Silsbee, Texas passed away July 06, 2025 at Silsbee Oaks Health Care. She was born March 27, 1932 in Fawil, Texas to Carl and Mercedes Hughes Davis. 


Ms. Davis is preceded in death by her brothers, Carl F. Davis, Billy Ray Davis, and Donald Wayne Davis; sister Lameta Jane Davis Clare; and numerous nieces and nephews. 


Funeral services will be 10:00 am Saturday July 12, 2025,  at Bon Wier United Pentecostal Church. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the church under the direction of Smith Funeral Home in Newton, Texas. 


Ms. Davis will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Visitation for James Harold Omstead will be 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Friday June 27, 2025 at Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Saturday June 28, 2025 at the Funeral Home, with burial following the service at Newton City Cemetery.


James passed away June 21, 2025 at his residence. He was born July 12, 1971 to Floyd Carroll and Stella Alicia Padilla Omstead. 


He worked for many years as an Equipment Operator for Tx Dot.


James is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Jessica Omstead.


He is survived by three sons, Devin Omstead, Jesse Omstead, and Triston Omstead all of Newton, Texas; three daughters, Danielle Omstead of Newton, Texas, Kayla Omstead of Weirgate, Texas and Ryelee’ Omstead of Newton, Texas; two brothers, Dennis Omstead Sr. of Newton, Texas and Floyd Omstead Jr. of Pell City, Alabama; eight grandchildren, Mason, Maddilyan, Dawson, Braxtyn, Raelinn, Mateo, Redley, and Jessica. 


James will be remember and missed by all who knew and loved him.

Delbert Morris Johnson 62, of Newton, Texas passed away June 13, 2025 in Newton, Texas. 


He was born May 28, 1963, in Merryville, Louisiana, to William A. and Paula Kaye Ruckey Johnson. 


He was a security Guard by trade and had lived in Newton for many years. 


Delbert is preceded in death by his stepfather, Worthey B. Arrant; father, William A. Johnson; and a sister Brenda Robinson.


He is survived by his mother, Paula Arrant of Newton; sons, Johnny Glenn Carter of Palestine, Texas; brother, William Johnson Jr. and wife Sandra of Newton; sisters, Shari Ebarb Thompson of Newton, and Delia Parry and husband Darrick of Newton; many nieces, and nephews.


Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Sunday, June 15, 2025 at Smith Funeral Home in Newton, Texas. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until service time Sunday.

Burial will follow the service at Sand Ridge Cemetery in Bleakwood, Texas. 


Delbert will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
